Church Plant Chronicles (ep2)

leaping ladyONLY GOD!

Say it with me, “Only God!” You and I have many reasons why we could say this, but here’s our latest reason for saying it: our offering for world missions tripled! ONLY GOD!

We know it’s, “Only God” because our membership hasn’t tripled, nor have our personal incomes. Those who are un- or underemployed still are. We are shouting, “Only God!” because God has shown His faithfulness and care for our little church plant that has covenanted with Him and taken our place among His “cattle on a thousand hills”.

We believe that it is our duty to prayerfully and financially help other mission groups around the world. Yes, we are just a poor, tiny church plant ourselves, but we know we are not the only ones. We also know that God has encouraged us to prioritize others above ourselves. So, with this in mind we agreed, before God, to tithe our end-of-quarter balance, trusting Him to supply our need. Furthermore, because Treasury is a ministry- not just a position, I had asked my treasurer to privately set a world mission giving goal with God for us (to be revealed at the end of Q4- knowing her it’s probably 5 figures! lol).

God said, “Give” and that’s what we have done. At this time, such giving seems impractical and risky, but when God’s Omnipotence looms larger, it’s UNBELIEF that becomes impractical! We’ve put our practical concerns and needs in the hands of Him Who’s commanded and promised.

When the financial report for Q2 was done, I asked one question, “What did we give for missions?” My heart nearly jumped out of my chest when the Treasurer said, “It’s tripled from last quarter”. For this to triple, our church budget had to have tripled. ONLY GOD! No guilt trips, no fundraising- just God, doing what He does best. There’s a blurb in our bulletin and it reads, “Prayer- not people, not funds- is the premium fuel of church plants.”

ONLY GOD can touch hearts to give systematically.

ONLY GOD can touch hearts to give sacrificially.leap silhouette

ONLY GOD can multiply two fish and five loaves to meet a massive need and leave a surplus.

ONLY GOD can plant a mission group with just 2 women and grow it into a solid, community filled church.

This is Fulton County Mission Group’s testimony to the world and claim to fame. May it be yours too: ONLY GOD!

surpriseWHEN GOD DOES THE UNEXPECTED:

What do you do when the Omnipotent God does something with “your” life that you neither expected nor wanted? Pitch a fit!

Well, that’s what I did. I got the news that my conference selected/approved me as a Missional Pastor January, 2013 and I pitched a fit worthy of a 2 year old. Why? 1st, I’m a woman and I figured (wrongly) that women couldn’t be pastors. 2nd, it was not the kind of work I wanted to do for God!

Sure, I’d left my wonderful career to work for the Lord full-time, but it was to be on MY terms (apparently). God is so amazing, isn’t He? He rarely, if ever, calls the qualified lol. I guess I’m one of those people who say, “I surrender ALL…” but have no idea what “ALL” means. God is gentle, kind, and patient.

God won, by the way. 9 months after my fit, I pioneered with a small group of die-hards and have planted a church in East Point, GA (Fulton County Mission Group) and am the lay-pastor. Go figure! And I’m blissfully happy and in my element, ‘who’d have thunk it?’

God is gentle, yet firm with His humblings. Below is a Sermon Jam I created from 1 of my latest sermons.  God blessed me as I prepared and delivered the message. John 17 means so much to me now, for it’s given me my purpose, mission, objectives, and aim. I’d like to think that I’ll never pitch a fit before God again. This sermon- I believe- did it’s job.

Be blessed! Click the link.

Meditation of My Heart

My Lord, I thank You for teachers.

I thank You that I’m a teacher: one who “GETS IT DONE” despite the odds.

Good teachers take after their Father. You are the Master teacher. Keep us strong in You and ever learning at Your feet. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Meditations of My Heart

Gentle Father,

What right do I have to be angry at another person…

Please fill me with Your Spirit, so I can be just as patient, loving, and understanding of others’ shortcomings as You are of mine. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Meditation of My Heart

Father, life seems so unjust and unfair. I pray today for my friends dealing with rejection & bitterness.

You are the One Who binds up wounds and heals the broken-hearted. I pray Your anointing over them to destroy every yoke of bondage that would undo Your work of redemption. Give them a new heart and right spirit so they can forgive as You have forgiven them. Give them the sense of compassion that You have for them. Stroke each of our hearts with Your gentle touch until we thrill with delight. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Meditations of My Heart

Dear Lord, please increase my friends’ desire for You so that it overrides their fleshly lusts.

Let their love for You become what matters most, overflowing into every area of life, impacting every relationship. Do a work in them, oh God, that is worthy of Your name. Let Your divine self-assurance obliterate any and all unbelief. Amen.

Meditation of My Heart

Father, I rest in Your will and wisdom… I don’t always have to understand.

Please regenerate me with Your Spirit and lead me to wait patiently and quietly for ALL things to work out for good. Until then, I wait…patiently and quietly.  Thank You! Amen.
